(Delaware and Chester Counties, PA)鈥擳he Arts at 大发六合彩 presents The Contemporary Middle Eastern Art Exhibition from March 1 through March 30, 2012, in the Art Gallery (Academic Building, Room 2305, 901 South Media Line Road, Media, PA). The opening reception is on March 1 from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m., and the exhibition is free and open to the public.
The Contemporary Middle Eastern Exhibition brings together nine artists from Bahrain, Egypt, Lebanon, Israel, Iraq, Jordan, Syria, former Palestine, Canada, and the United States to promote cultural understanding and artistic dialogue. The participating artists are: Anas Alshaik, Adel Barakat, Adib Fattal, Archie Granot, Nabila Hilmi, Tammy Mike Laufer, Hussein Majed, Aisha Mansouri, Thamir Dawood Sudani and Camille Zakharia.
All of the artists are skilled storytellers who convey common expressions of humanity by suffusing their work with cultural and religious identity, loss, memory, fear, love of family, war, exile, and longing for peace.
鈥淎rt is universal like music. It evokes a dialogue; a powerful tool for cultural engagement that challenges restrictions and divisions,鈥 says exhibition curator Rose Obeid, a professor of Arabic Studies and ESL at the College. Obeid hopes the exhibition will reveal that 鈥渋rrespective of political divide, the constant common thread that connects us all is humanity.鈥
Coinciding with the exhibition are the following free events:
- Al-Bustan Resident Takht Ensemble on March 1 at 7 p.m., Academic Building, Large Auditorium
- Calligraphy Demo with artist Thamir Sudani on March 6 at 11 a.m., Art Gallery
The gallery is open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. For more information, please call 610-359-5014 or visit聽.
