(Delaware and Chester Counties, PA)—Don’t miss “The Landscape from Three Perspectives,” a photography exhibition featuring three regional photographers. On view February 7 to March 8, 2013, in the Art Gallery at ϲ (Academic Building, Room 2305, 901 S. Media Line Road, Media, PA), the exhibition kicks off with an opening reception on February 7 from 3 to 7 p.m. A panel discussion with the artists will be held on February 13, from 6 to 8 p.m. in the College’s Small Auditorium.
“The intent of the exhibition is to promote awareness about the shrinking natural landscape of today's world, and how to protect and preserve the landscape for future generations,” says curator and award-winning landscape photographer Richard Johnson. Johnson, a photography instructor and director of the Gallery at the College, hopes the exhibition brings new light to an age-old way of creating imagery and a traditional subject matter of landscapes as well as showcasing photography as a way to reinforce the importance of our natural environment.
Three well-known regional artists are featured in “The Landscape from Three Perspectives”. Laura Ducceschi, who has earned awards at the local, national and international level, creates images that bring to light the breathtaking beauty of our world. She has held many solo exhibitions, been in juried and invitational shows and has displayed in venues across the East Coast. She is on the faculty at the Wayne Art Center.
Nature in its local manifestations is the primary subject of John Newell's photographs. His photographic career has included portrait, commercial, wedding, architectural, public relations, and landscape photography. He has taught photography privately and at ϲ, and his work has been exhibited in solo and group shows and is in numerous private and public collections.
Ron Tarver’s work has been published in a number of publications, including National Geographic, Time and Newsweek. He co-authored the book We Were There: Voices of African American Veterans, which was accompanied by a traveling exhibition that debuted at the National Constitution Center in Philadelphia. Tarver is a 2001 Pew Fellow in the Arts and has received grants from the National Endowment for the Arts and the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts. He was named one of the Delaware Valley's "50 Rising Stars in the Arts" by Seven Arts Magazine and currently serves as visiting instructor of photography at Swarthmore College.
During the panel discussion, all three artists will discuss how they came to be landscape photographers and the various techniques they use in their work. A question-and-answer session will follow the discussion and attendees will have an opportunity to meet the artists.
