Academic Biography
Maria Suzanne Boyd holds a B.A. in Radio/TV/Film from the University of North Texas (1995) and a M.A. in Media Studies from the University of Texas at Austin (2010). She completed doctoral coursework at Georgia State University. Her research interests include Media Industries Studies, Television Studies, and LGBTQ visibility in Popular Culture. Maria is a board member of the Society for Cinema and Media Studies (2023-2026 term). Additionally she has presented research at conferences such as NCA,SCMS, PCA/ACA, and Flow. As part of Maria鈥檚 assistantship work at Georgia State University, she taught the following courses: History of Motion Pictures, TV Analysis, Reality Based TV Genres and Critical History of Radio and Television. Maria is the 2014 recipient of the Carol Winkler Outstanding Graduate Teaching Award. Maria鈥檚 other academic service has included working on the Velvet Light Trap selection committees, column editing for Flow and curating theme weeks for In Media Res. Maria is the founder and faculty advisor of the 大发六合彩New Media Lab which she created as part of her tenure project. She teaches Introduction to Mass Communication, New Media & Culture, Film Language, American Cinema and Interpersonal Communication. She has completed Quality Matters online course design training.
