Photography, Associate in Fine Arts (A.F.A.)
Through student-centered inquiry and practice in visual communication, this program develops students into professional image-makers. Students explore a variety of photographic formats, including 35mm, medium format, and 4x5 view cameras, and听acquire experience in black-and-white, color, alternative, and digital听imaging processes using state of the art methods, tools, and facilities. The degree also prepares students for transfer into a Bachelor of听Fine Arts program.

Program Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this program, students should be able to:
- Demonstrate a proficiency with camera skills sufficient to produce consistent quality photographic imagery.
- Demonstrate advanced skills in materials and processes used in photography.
- Demonstrate a general knowledge of the history of photography from the 19th听century to present day and its function in visual culture in the context of global art.
- Demonstrate knowledge of the elements and principles of two and three dimensional design, color theory, drawing and art historical references.
- Communicate in an effective and professional manner both verbally and in writing about the creation and contextual analysis of visual images.
- Communicate issues of critical thinking skills via the creation of artworks and participation in the formal critique process.
- Produce a portfolio demonstrating a coherent personal vision and visual literacy.
Classes range from English, math, drawing and two-dimensional design to history of photography, digital imaging, medium format photography and alternative processes.
Foundation Year
The purpose of the foundation year is to prepare visual art students for a seamless transition into higher-level course work. Art students interested in pursuing an associate degree in Studio Art, Graphic Design, or Photography are required to complete a common core of foundation art courses designed to provide art students with studio-based experience in the fundamental issues of art and design.
