Alumni Profile: Trindy Grundy '00
In the early months of her tenure as President of 大发六合彩, Dr. L. Joy Gates Black has already received numerous well wishes from the local community.聽One of those well wishes came in the form of a congratulatory letter from聽Trindy Grundy 鈥�00. In her letter, Trindy writes, 鈥淎s an alumna, I am very proud of the life-changing experience I had on campus, which was the springboard for my going to both Temple and Widener University to obtain my Bachelor of Social Work and Master of Social Work degrees.鈥� It鈥檚 a privilege to share Trindy鈥檚 story as part of National Social Worker鈥檚 month, for which she is a prime example of 2018鈥檚 theme: 鈥淪ocial Workers-Leaders, Advocates, Champions.鈥�
After a long absence from the classroom, Trindy was motivated by her personal support network to register for classes. When Trindy鈥檚 brother was diagnosed with cancer, the two shared lengthy discussions about life, goals and dreams. 鈥淗e encouraged me to go back to school and get what I needed to follow my dreams,鈥� she says. 鈥淲ithout the help and support of my husband and the Lord, the accomplishments I have made would not be possible.鈥澛燭rindy goes on to praise the faculty who helped her navigate her return to the classroom and says, 鈥淲hen you have a professor like Madeline Somerville-Reeves, who works in the community and encourages anyone with a desire to attend college, it is hard not to at least try it.鈥�
Trindy eventually graduated from the College with an Associate in Science in Behavioral Science in May 2000. She has dedicated her career to the social services community, previously working for the Delaware County Office of Services and Aging and now she serves as Director for Senior Community Services () Long Term Care Programs, which includes options, caregiver support and the health insurance counseling program.
As a licensed social worker, Trindy calls upon her enthusiasm and classroom training daily. "As Director for Senior Community Services, the largest non-profit agency serving seniors in Delaware County for 40 years, my passion is guiding those who do not know where to turn. For the last ten years, I have been able to use the learning experiences from the College to train, support and encourage my staff and community members.鈥澛犅�
Trindy is proud to give not only at work but also in the community.聽She is the Co-Facilitator for the African-American Alzheimer鈥檚 Support Group at the First African Baptist Church in Sharon Hill, which will celebrate its 20th anniversary later this year.聽For these efforts and others, she was honored by Maria Donatucci (D-185) and Thaddeus Kirkland (D-159) of the Pennsylvania House of Representatives with a citation for service in March 2016. Senior Community Services was also recognized with a Good Neighbor Senior Center Legacy Award for their role in promoting the wellbeing and independence of older persons in the community.聽
