Artist Statement
Around this hour in our lives and in my work, we are in the midst of COVID- 19. Uncertain times are with us as we try to seek comfort. What's wrong with that?
In my series of paintings, I pull together familiar things that take on a story of their own, childlike things that we're all able to connect to. I create paintings that show little glimpses of the subject. My intention is to create a sense of playfulness and an abundance of joy through my use of color and composition.
In the series of selfie-like photos you can see almost a duplication of some of the subjects. Like Alvin of the Chipmunks giving a wave, or even Dumbo and his friend mouse. You can feel youthful energy as you change from canvas to canvas in the group setting. I've also put in a feature of drafts to give the sense of playing out a scene, with the playfulness of a small group of friends. This plays out a feeling of content with self around others.
