Viet Le, Photography
Artist Statement
The main reason I came to the United States was to pursue my passion for photography. Before I decided to become a photographer, I had been an aircraft technician for twelve years in Vietnam. Changing to a new career path and moving to a new country were never easy tasks for me, but the love that I have for photography gives me strength to face all of the challenges that life throws at me. Photography allows me to show my enthusiasm for capturing a magnificent moment, to share my thoughts through my images, and to learn new things from a new place or even an old place where I have been many times.
I have experienced many types of photography genres, but the ideal for becoming a visual storyteller brings me to street photography and still life photography. These two types of photography may not seem to be related, but they are all about capturing the right moment. Street photography teaches me to patiently wait until my subject appears on my camera frame at the right composition and the right time. Likewise, still life photography gives me a chance to create a specific moment by using lighting and various props to bring dynamic life to my subject.
My goal is to make photographs that convey beauty of a single, unrepeatable moment of people captured in time and that introduce my way of seeing to my viewers. Photography is also my opportunity to connect with and learn from people around me. The camera is a tool, but it is also my best friend, and together we explore the world.
