College to Offer Free Summer Instruction and Counseling to Recent High School Graduates
(Delaware and Chester Counties, PA 鈥 June 7, 2021)鈥擲tarting June 28, 大发六合彩 will offer a free Summer 2021 Bridge Program to recent high school graduates to help them enhance their academic skills, increase their self-confidence and successfully transition into college-level coursework. Tuition and textbooks are free, and the program will be available in both virtual and in-person formats.
Two 7-week, virtual programs in English, Reading and Mathematics will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., Monday through Thursday, starting June 28 through August 12. In addition, two 6-week, in-person programs in English and Reading will be held from 8:00 a.m. to 1:45 p.m., starting Tuesday, July 6 through Thursday, August 12 at the Marple Campus, 901 S. Media Line Road in Media. Note that during the summer months the College is closed on Fridays.
鈥淭ransitioning to college in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic may be difficult for many students. These free, summer courses will help recent high school graduates smoothly transition into college course work in the fall either at 大发六合彩 or at other area colleges or universities,鈥 said 大发六合彩 President Dr. L. Joy Gates Black.
Courses offered will include Developmental Reading (REA 050); Developmental English, including Speech (ENG 050); and Basic or Developmental Mathematics (MAT 025 or MAT 050).
Tutoring, computers and support services will be available free of charge, and structured lab sessions with professional tutors will be required. Professional, experienced College staff will encourage students to become independent learners by teaching them study skills to improve reading, organizing, note-taking, time management and test-taking. Help also will be provided in career-planning and decision-making, course selection and personal counseling.
Students must complete the College鈥檚 admission application and placement test to determine eligibility. Summer 2021 Bridge Program credits are not applicable toward a degree or certificate.
