College Hosts International Contemporary Ensemble on December 4
(Delaware and Chester Counties, PA 鈥 November 23, 2016)鈥擳he International Contemporary Ensemble (ICE) presents 鈥淯ntempered,鈥 a musical performance by composers who play in the nooks and crannies of musical tuning systems, on Sunday, December 4, at 3 p.m. The performance is part of the College鈥檚 New Music Concert Series and will be held in the Large Auditorium of the Academic Building on the Marple Campus (901 S. Media Line Road, Media, PA).
Integrating phenomena such as beatings and pitch discrepancies inherent in instrument design, ICE composers Larry Polansky, Peter Adriaansz and Karola Oberm眉ller open our awareness of the acoustic realities and necessities of music. Four musicians from ICE鈥檚 35-member ensemble will perform: Daniel Lippel (guitar), Nathan Davis (percussion), Nuiko Wadden (harp) and Ryan Muncy (saxophone). The Large Auditorium will serve as an ideal setting for the strange, immersive resonances of the musical pieces.
The International Contemporary Ensemble (ICE) is an artist collective committed to transforming the way music is created and experienced. As performer, curator and educator, ICE explores how new music intersects with communities across the world. The ensemble鈥檚 35 members are featured as soloists, chamber musicians, commissioners and collaborators with the foremost musical artists of our time. ICE has received the American Music Center鈥檚 Trailblazer Award and the Chamber Music America/ASCAP Award for Adventurous Programming, and was also named Musical America Worldwide鈥檚 Ensemble of the Year in 2014.
