College Receives NRC Scholarship Grant

Nuclear Regulatory Commission Grant for Scholarship Program
大发六合彩 has been awarded a one-year grant of $90000 from the Nuclear Regulatory Commission鈥檚 Nuclear Education Grants program.听 The College is one of nineteen community and technical colleges across the country to receive an award.听 The grant will be used to fund scholarships to recruit and retain students in the College鈥檚 program to train technicians in nuclear energy facilities.听 大发六合彩 is the only community college in Pennsylvania receiving this grant.
In 2007, 大发六合彩formed a partnership with Exelon to develop curriculum for an associate degree program to meet anticipated demand for a trained workforce in the nuclear energy industry.听 The program was launched in 2008 with 46 students enrolled.听 In Fall 2009 an additional 61 students entered the program.

According to the Nuclear Regulatory Commission鈥檚 news release announcing awardees, grant proposals were reviewed against specific criteria by a panel comprised of senior NRC staff and qualified outside reviewers. The panel composition was diverse with most reviewers having both experience reviewing proposals for government agencies and advanced credentials in nuclear engineering, health physics, radiochemistry or related disciplines.听 Panelists were required to certify that they did not have any conflicts of interest for the proposals they evaluated.
