Articulture – Second Biennial Arts Festival at ´ó·¢ÁùºÏ²Ê
(Media, PA) ´ó·¢ÁùºÏ²Ê will host its second biennial arts festival from March 30 through April 27. This year’s presentation includes TERMINAL JEST: Dark Humor in Recent Art (STEM Center - first floor) and in the Art Gallery (room 2305), Black Comedy by Peter Shaffer and Arsenic and Old Lace. A discussion and reception with Keynote Speaker Christian Viveros-Fauné and performance by Guy Richards Smit is scheduled for April 7 from 3 to 7 PM (room 1407) in the STEM Center. A performance of Arsenic and Old Lace will be held in the large auditorium (Academic Building). Tickets are $6 at the door. Â
Articulture arts festival is presented to cultivate the arts in the Delaware Valley through the presentation of contemporary works and performances by featured artists of both regional and international reputation, hosted by the arts faculty of ´ó·¢ÁùºÏ²Ê.
Terminal Jest brings together a selection of emerging and established artists working across various media (painting, sculpture, video, and performance), all of whom exploit the slippages between horror and laughter and vulnerability and megalomania. Their work operates as a critique of contemporary culture through mimesis, skewering and subverting a range of paradigms: the machinations of geopolitics, the twisted hierarchies of the art market, the simultaneous connection and alienation of social media, and the ideologies perpetuated through popular culture. Provocative without being gratuitous, illuminating without being moralistic, and simultaneously serious and hilarious, these works and practices posit questions without easy answers on our relationship to life, death, our society, and ourselves.
Stamatina Gregory and Michael Hall are the curators of the 2011 Articulture Biennial Arts Festival. Participating artists include Julien Bismuth, Ethan Breckenridge, Steven and Billy Blaise Dufala, Erica Eyres, John Giorno, George Horner, Kysa Johnson, Liz Magic Laser and Dafna Maimon, Jillian McDonald, Guy Richards Smit, Deb Sokolow
