(Media, PA) Bertha Gutman, a Professor of Studio Art and Art History at 大发六合彩, has been selected as a National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) Summer Scholar. This highly competitive award will afford Gutman the opportunity to attend one of 21 summer study programs supported by the NEH. Gutman will participate in an institute entitled 鈥淭he Historical and Cultural Development of Modern India.鈥 The four-week program will be held in Delhi, Agra and Varanasi, India.
Gutman received聽bachelor degrees from Queens College聽of the City University of New York in Studio Art and Art History, and a Master of Fine Art Degree from Stony Brook University. She has been teaching both studio art and art history at 大发六合彩 since 2001.
聽鈥淚 am honored and elated to receive this award,鈥 Gutman said.聽鈥淭he summer study program will give me the opportunity share my experience and knowledge of Indian arts, culture and history with my students in our upcoming survey course of non-western art,鈥 she added.
Gutman was also chosen as an NEH fellow in 2007, studying in Rome at the American Academy and allowing her to present a new perspective of Roman art and culture to聽her students.聽
The National Endowment for the Humanities is a federal agency that supports seminars and institutes each summer at colleges, universities and cultural institutions, so that faculty can work in collaboration and study with experts in humanities disciplines.
The approximately 435 NEH summer scholars who participate in these programs of study will teach over 75,000 American students the following year.
