SpectiCast Series Presents George Balanchine's Jewels
(Delaware and Chester Counties, PA • March 5, 2014)—´ó·¢ÁùºÏ²Ê’s SpectiCast series continues with an HD broadcast of George Balanchine’s ballet Jewels on Sunday, March 30, 2014, at 2 p.m. in the Large Auditorium in the Academic Building on the Marple Campus (901 S. Media Line Road, Media, PA).Â
Considered one of the most prolific choreographers of the 20th century, Balanchine choreographed more than 400 dances in his 50-year career. He revolutionized the look of classical ballet and influenced the growth of dance in America. His ballets are performed by major companies around the world.Â
Jewels, produced later in Balanchine’s career, consists of three acts and is considered the first full-length abstract ballet. The SpectiCast version was filmed at the Mariinsky Theatre, home to the famous ballet company of the same name. The performance features many well-known dancers, including Andrian Fadeyev, Ulyana Lopatkina and Igor Zelensky, and runs 92 minutes long.Â
Now in its fourth year, the College’s SpectiCast series brings the classical realm of music, dance and opera closer to home for residents of Delaware and Chester Counties. Each performance is produced using a state-of-the-art audiovisual system and is choreographed to capture the fullness of the orchestral performance and the intimacy of the on-stage experience. Performances are filmed live in some of the greatest venues around the world and then broadcast at the College. The next performance is of Giuseppe Verdi’s Nabucco on Sunday, April 27, 2014.Â
