Artist Statement
I create easel sized, acrylic portrait paintings, and use vibrant, often unconventional, color palettes. My work shows evidence of thick layers of paint and gestural hand markings. Recently, my focus has been creating portraits of loved ones and people who have influenced my life and society. I take these moments in history and recreate them using a variety of energetic color mixtures along with loose and refined brush strokes. Using colors that resonate with the subject and myself allows me to capture an emotion or mood that was present in a moment of time. I use bold colors because I believe that being human is being present and being present is bold. It takes courage to live unapologetically and to love everyone around you unconditionally. My hope is when others view my work they are captivated by the color and perhaps find their own meaning in these portraits.
