Academic Advising for Current Students
How to get from 0 to 60/64 Credits
This checklist serves as a general guideline. It is essential to consult with your academic advisor regularly to ensure you are on the right track toward achieving your academic goals.
Before you start your first semester:
- Complete Online Orientation: Familiarize yourself with the campus, resources, and policies.
- Apply for Financial Aid: Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and any additional financial aid application (such as PHEAA).
- Familiarize Yourself with the Academic Tools: Ensure that you can access delaGATE, your Degree Progress, Connect2Success, and Student Email.
- Meet with an Advisor: Discuss your academic goals, plan, program requirements, and course selection.
- Register for Your First Courses: Complete course registration with an academic advisor or self-register via delaGATE.
0-15 Credits:
- Review/Adjust Academic Plan: Review your progress towards graduation and academic/career plans to make any necessary adjustments with your advisor.
- Establish Study Habits: Develop effective study techniques and time management skills via Tutoring Services to succeed academically.
- Join Student Organizations: Engage in extracurricular activities that align with your interests to enhance your college experience.
- Explore Career Services: Attend career workshops, meet with Student Employment Services, and job fairs to begin planning for your future.
- Explore Transfer Options and Meet with a Transfer Advisor: Research and discuss four-year colleges and universities with a transfer advisor to determine transfer requirements and application deadlines.
16-30 Credits:
- Ideally, Finalize a Major and/or meet with a Career Counselor: Decide on a specific field of study to focus your academic path
- Review/Adjust Academic Plan: Review your progress towards graduation and academic/career plans to make any necessary adjustments with your advisor.
- Seek Internship or Volunteer Opportunities: Apply for internships or volunteer positions to gain practical experience in your field of interest by speaking with Student Employment Services.
- Build Relationships with Professors: Attend office hours, ask questions, and establish connections with faculty members who can provide guidance and mentorship.
31-45 Credits:聽
- Review/Adjust Academic Plan: Review your progress towards graduation and academic/career plans to make any necessary adjustments with your advisor.
- Apply for Scholarships: Research and apply for scholarships to help finance your education and reduce the financial burden.
- Network with Professionals: Attend career fairs and industry events to connect with professionals in your field of interest.
46-60/64 Credits:聽
- Meet with Transfer Counselor: Schedule a meeting with a transfer counselor to discuss transfer applications and requirements.
- Finalize Transfer Applications: Submit applications to desired four-year institutions by their specified deadlines.
- Apply for Financial Aid: Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and any additional financial aid applications for transfer institutions.
- Apply to jobs and/or meet with Student Employment Services: Begin filling out job applications or meet with a career coach to discuss the job application process and build your resume.
- Prepare for Graduation: Review graduation requirements, ensure all coursework is completed, and apply for graduation.
